It's Squitter the Spider from the Super Donkey Kong series a.k.a. Donkey Kong Country for the SNES.
Yes, he is life-sized. Production began February 5th and completion was on February 22nd. This photograph was taken on the 23rd at the park next to my school.
He is the first plushie I made primarily with a sewing machine, and he is also the first plushie that I have made with an open mouth. He was part of my Senior Project.
The main part of his body is 15 inches in height, 15 inches in width, and 25 inches in length. His legs are each 28 inches long.
He is wearing four identical pairs of white baby shoes that I painted to match the character design. The main part of his body and his legs is made entirely out of minky. The inside of his mouth is made out of suedecloth.
All eight legs are completely posable thanks to the 4 gauge wire that I put into each of them. The eyes and teeth are made out of Crayola Model Magic and Mod Podge, which was later painted and sealed.
He took about 70 hours to complete from start to finish. The majority of the work was done with a sewing machine, but some parts had to be done by hand.
The detail work on the main part of his body was painstakingly handsewn on and took about 17 hours to complete, although you can't really see all of it in this shot.
The head and body were also sewn together by hand, and the legs were attached by hand. I think that goes without saying though, as it would be impossible to put such large parts under the sewing needle on a machine. XD
The eyes and teeth were attached to the head with Fabri-Tac. I applied this stuff directly to the head where I wanted to place each piece and held each of them in place for about 10-15 minutes to ensure that they would stay put.
If you would like to have your very own plush made, or would like to buy a premade one, please check my latest dA journal for further information and to see what's currently available.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
